GASLIGHT DISTRICT

The Gaslight District is an exciting new heritage district in downtown Galt, Ontario. A collection of heritage buildings, formerly home to industrial and manufacturing uses, are being converted to a mixed-use community with new residential condominium buildings complementing the old heritage structures re-purposed for commercial and retail use.
The Planning Partnership led the landscape design for the Gaslight District, which centres on a large central flexible plaza space capable of holding markets and events, while also catering to potential outdoor patio functions. The landscape references the nearby Grand River as well as the foundations of heritage structures since demolished. The landscape expands beyond the central courtyard making improvements to the surrounding streetscape and connecting to the larger waterfront and its accompanying trail system.
