Georgina Waterfront Parks Master Plan
Georgina, ONThe Town of Georgina’s Waterfront Parks Master Plan was a three phase study led by The Planning Partnership from 2020 to 2023 to enhance the public parks located along the entire length of the Town’s Lake Simcoe waterfront stretching from the Holland River to Port Bolster. The purpose of the Master Plan was to establish a vision and framework for implementation and direction for operations and management and provide valuable information and data analysis for all Town-owned waterfront assets including wharves, piers, beaches, parks, road ends, shorelines, road allowances, mouths of rivers and wetlands adjacent to the waterfront.
The Waterfront Parks Master Plan provided recommendations, concept plans, illustrations, costing, direction for implementation, operations, opportunities for economic benefits and a parking strategy for 7 Destination Waterfront Parks, and 9 Community Waterfront Parks. The Plan also examined 27 road ends and other publicly owned land parcels.
As part of this Master Plan,TPP prepared a detailed parking strategy and recommendations for food trucks and other economic development opportunities in the parks.
An extensive public and stakeholder engagement program included online workshops through three phases from opportunities and constraints, to preliminary findings and recommendations, to preferred strategies, programs and concepts. Other methods of engaging the community included online surveys, pop up engagement in the parks and one on one conversations with residents and representatives of community groups.
